The Hope Chest~

Another sonnet I wrote a couple months ago for school...

Secreted away 'neath cedar chest lid,
Enwrapped in linen and newspaper folds,
A girlhood tradition preserved of old
Keeps hopes of future days patiently hid.
Both the box and latch are strongly secure:
A well-guarded heart steeled from scorning eyes.
It assumes the unobtrusive disguise,
Innocence of dreams protected and pure.
Treasured love letters worn from countless reads
Tucked 'twixt the folds of a white wedding gown
Infuse the cloth with a shy, sweet perfume.
Oh for the days when these hopes shall be freed,
The padlock removed, the heartstrings unbound,
And the dried crimson roses once more will bloom.

Something~

Something breath-taking...
The sight of dawn-
Rising and spreading,
Then suddenly gone.
Bright as a wedding,
Soft as a babe's yawn.
Color and splendor...
Then suddenly wan.

Something inspiring...
A tug at my soul-
Dares me aim high,
To pursue some goal.
Bids me comply
To that sweet cajole,
Urging me onward,
Fanning the coal.

Something eye-opening...
Giving me sight-
Restoring to me
The lack of clear light;
Helps me to see
What is deemed right.
For justice and freedom,
Urges me fight.

Something restoring...
Makes me anew-
Revives in the sky
The blissful blue.
Presents an ally
Faithful and true.
Revives my sad heart,
Helps me pull through.

Smoke and Ashes~

Here follows a song for a book that is really on my heart to write. I'm not going to reveal details, hehehe, but I hope you enjoy the song, something a character sings before a great final battle.
The cover photography was taken by my sister, Emma, across the road from where we live, and I edited it with a program called Corel.

Smoke and ashes,
Broken glasses,
Scatter the floor.

Feral gashes,
Lightning flashes,
Rain starts to pour.

Waiting, wondering,
Outside: thundering…
What are we fighting for?

Wandering, blundering,
As a shunned thing…
Take away the war!

But dawn will rise
‘pon blood-red skies,
Oh, the World is dark.

If I have one prayer,
I will swear
That none shall crush my heart.

For far too long
Has this great wrong
Beaten back the light.

Sing a hope song,
Both pure and strong,
To turn back the night.

Cling to your faith,
Flee the dark wraiths,
Hold your children tight…

Wipe your stained face,
Take up your mace,
Now we stand and fight!

But dawn will rise
‘pon blood-red skies,
Oh, the World is dark.

If I have one prayer,
I will swear
That none shall crush my heart.

Thousands shall fall,
Hundreds give all,
To defend what’s good.

‘Tis a grave call:
Form a steel wall,
Join in brotherhood.

Fight for freedom,
For your kingdom,
Remember how it stood.

In the sunlight,
Pure, gold sunlight,
As again it should…

And dawn will rise
‘pon blood-red skies,
Oh, the World is dark.

Hear my one prayer,
My last prayer,
That none shall crush my heart.

Rain~

Have you ever noticed how
Rain appears on a mournful day?
Like a gentle fall of the final tears,
Washing all the sorrow and sadness away?

Rain is Heaven's blessing,
Sending you a sympathetic letter.
Once it has come, all the woe gone,
You are cleaned and fell much better.

Like a silver shower
Of soothing calm,
It sings to you:
A serene, gentle psalm.

Raindrops are God' s tears,
Showing you He cares.
You may not see or hear Him,
But He is ever there.

And when the shower ceases,
And the clouds roll away,
A rainbow of hope smiles down,
Marking the start of a new and joyous day.
