Every Word~

Emotions of the past scrawled out in a poem about change.
This poem is old, but I haven't posted any poetry in ages! So I'm going back through my schoolwork to find some... I'm going to get to writing again this Spring/Summer. Some stuff that isn't so dismal...

She reached into her pocket
And withdrew a dream.
And as she brought it out,
She too withdrew, it seemed
From things that were no more,
And now would never be:
Clenched within a resolved fist,
Setting her soon free.
Cast unto the burning flames
Consuming care-worn note,
Every bit removed forever...
Every word he wrote.

Forget-Me-Not~

This one's almost a year old... just playing with words.
Yes, I made up the word demurity. :P But I liked it.

Forget me not,
As the tiny flower pleads,
Blue demurity...
Forget me not,
Oh, my heart, it bleeds
For hope and purity...
Forget me not,
Desperately it needs
From you some surety...
Forget me not,
Cast me not unto the weeds,
Please remember me.

The Hope Chest~

Another sonnet I wrote a couple months ago for school...

Secreted away 'neath cedar chest lid,
Enwrapped in linen and newspaper folds,
A girlhood tradition preserved of old
Keeps hopes of future days patiently hid.
Both the box and latch are strongly secure:
A well-guarded heart steeled from scorning eyes.
It assumes the unobtrusive disguise,
Innocence of dreams protected and pure.
Treasured love letters worn from countless reads
Tucked 'twixt the folds of a white wedding gown
Infuse the cloth with a shy, sweet perfume.
Oh for the days when these hopes shall be freed,
The padlock removed, the heartstrings unbound,
And the dried crimson roses once more will bloom.

Echo~

A shout among the cavern,
A voice betwixt the hills,
A song along a stone cave floor
Where languid water spills.

A mighty, deep-sung baritone,
A shrill cry of the wind
Repeated 'til the fading notes
Have long out-rung their din.

Ricochet from wall to wall,
Whispers from the past...
Echo, echo, 'til they leave
A void of silence vast.

Déjà vu of bygone days
Haunting to return.
Dwell upon the ringing sound
And perhaps at long-last learn

Ponder the words that fly,
Ever growing distant.
Will you fall to Siren's song
Or is your heart resistant?

Ricochet from east to west,
Darting oh so fast...
Echo, echo 'til they end
In hollow silence vast.

Heed the sweet reflection,
Strive to understand.
It ripples into untold void
Beyond the reach of hand.

So sing into the valley,
Shout into the wood,
Listen to the spoken words,
Reflect if they were Good.

Ricochet from heart to heart
So our words are cast,
Will they make a joyous heart,
Or echo silence vast...?

Autumn~

(Cover-photo taken by Emma Catherine Smith.)

Arid skies heave listless sighs,
Utter words with sleepy eyes...
Trees ablaze with vivid fire,
Undulating flames inspire.
Moonlight's golden harvest glow
Nests above and heralds snow.

Poetry~

Prophets speak the fervent words,
Passion sings from hearts of birds.
Pondering concepts from dawn of time,
Perfection breathed in flawless rhyme.
Peaceful, calm, flowing sweet...
Pure and fearless, bold, complete.
Prayers on the wind, given to song,
Poems delicate, dauntless, strong.

There Is a Place~

There is a place I wander
Whenever I am filled
With emotions I do not
Understand or will.

It is a place where water
Sings a soothing psalm,
And sunlight flickers off
The surface, still and calm.

Summer breezes shoo away
Grievances and doubt,
And surety comes home to me
As songbirds flit about.

Ripples on the surface
Represent my heart
Beating with a solemn strength
As home again I start.

Woodland Quatrain~

A short woodland rhyme~

Silvan solitude,
Shaded serenity,
Woodland sanctitude,
Forest solemnity.

Where Roses~

A very short little rhyme from one of my stories...

Where roses kiss a gray sky morn',
Where, silver, falls the sea,
I watch for you, a soul lovelorn...
My Heart- sail back to me!

Something~

Something breath-taking...
The sight of dawn-
Rising and spreading,
Then suddenly gone.
Bright as a wedding,
Soft as a babe's yawn.
Color and splendor...
Then suddenly wan.

Something inspiring...
A tug at my soul-
Dares me aim high,
To pursue some goal.
Bids me comply
To that sweet cajole,
Urging me onward,
Fanning the coal.

Something eye-opening...
Giving me sight-
Restoring to me
The lack of clear light;
Helps me to see
What is deemed right.
For justice and freedom,
Urges me fight.

Something restoring...
Makes me anew-
Revives in the sky
The blissful blue.
Presents an ally
Faithful and true.
Revives my sad heart,
Helps me pull through.
